HREDA Completes Third Annual Site Selectors Tour in Hampton Roads
In September, the Alliance partnered with the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) and the Port of Virginia to host site selection consultants from across the country to showcase our region, the ports and its logistics opportunities/advantages.
We kicked off the tour in Virginia Beach with a dinner where consultants and local economic development directors had the opportunity to mix and mingle. The following day, the site selectors gained insight from John Reinhart, CEO and Executive Director of the Port of Virginia, about our region's tremendous port and international shipping capabilities. The consultants then participated in a close-door Q&A session with local employers focusing on business climate, workforce and local talent. The group then explored the Virginia International Gateway, the most advanced automated port in the Americas! The site selectors also toured our region by helicopter for an aerial view of the tremendous development opportunities in the communities surrounding the port facilities. The day ended with members of the Alliance Board of Directors on the Carrie B showboat, cruising past shipyards, ports terminals and deep water sites of Hampton Roads.
The tour ended at STIHL’s US headquarters in Virginia Beach, one of the largest manufacturing employers in Hampton Roads and proud Alliance investor. The grouped learned how STIHL uses the Foreign Trade Zone to their advantage and highlighted workforce development as well as advance manufacturing.
“For the third consecutive year, the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, The Port of Virginia and Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance hosted a tour of Virginia’s world-class port facilities and the great assets of the Hampton Roads region,” said Mike Lehmkuhler, VEDP’s Vice President of Business Attraction. “The longstanding relationship between our three organizations allows us to share Virginia’s compelling story and the advantages of doing business in the Commonwealth of Virginia with this key audience for our organizations and we look forward to hosting more site selection consultants in the future.”
The Alliance is always proud to partner with VEDP and the Port of Virginia to showcase and promote the region to site selectors.
