Germany-based TAG America Inc. Selects Virginia Beach for First U.S. Manufacturing Facility

The Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance is pleased to announce today that TAG America Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of TAG Chemicals GmbH, has selected Virginia Beach for its first manufacturing location in the United States. TAG America Inc. will produce water-based, non-toxic specialty chemicals such as agent releasers for a variety of industrial clients. TAG Chemicals GmbH is headquartered in Bischofsheim, Germany.

"We are excited to welcome TAG America Inc., a family owned company to our growing international business community," said Director of Virginia Beach Economic Development Warren D. Harris. "Small and medium-sized European enterprises increasingly understand the importance of having a U.S. facility for long-term growth and success. Virginia Beach, the region and the Commonwealth's efforts to attract this target market continue to produce outstanding results."

TAG America Inc. conducted a real estate search in several states on the East Coast to host production, storage, sales and administration before selecting a 6,400-square-foot facility at 5721 Bayside Road in Virginia Beach. Harvey Lindsay Commercial Real Estate represented the landlord in the transaction.

"We dedicated a lot of time before selecting Virginia Beach for our newest international operation," said Andreas Kemper, managing director for TAG Chemicals GmbH. "We believe the strategic location, the favorable business climate, and the support we received make Hampton Roads and Virginia Beach the best location for TAG America Inc."

TAG Chemicals GmbH was founded in 2003 and operates facilities in Germany, South Africa, India and the Czech Republic. The company is ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001-certified as quality management systems with core competencies in research and development. The Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance, along with the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, assisted the company during the decision-making process.

"Having TAG America Inc. locate in Virginia Beach is one more example of the quality of this region's economic development professionals," said Kevin Sweeney, Interim President & CEO of the Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance (HREDA).  "We all work together to promote Hampton Roads as the preferred location for companies around the world. These firms contribute significantly to the economic environment and ultimately form strong partnerships with our existing domestic companies. It's a key process to participate in and to help diversify our local economy and it demonstrates the value the Alliance brings to its membership and partners."

The company will initially hire six employees, with plans to expand as its North American customer base grows. Hiring will begin in spring 2016 after the facility has been modified for its operations.

The Mission of the Alliance is to market the Hampton Roads area of Virginia as the primary region of choice for economic investment and business expansion and to serve as the area's lead regional economic development and marketing organization to recruit and encourage new and expanded business development and a talented business employment pool to locate in Hampton Roads.  The Alliance works in collaboration with its private sector investors, The Port of Virginia and the Virginia Economic Development Partnership to recruit new and expanding businesses to the region, as well as the eleven localities it represents: the cities of Chesapeake, Franklin, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Poquoson, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach and the counties of Isle of Wight and Southampton.
