Spain-based Manufacturer to Invest $5 Million in Suffolk
In a press release today, Governor Terry McAuliffe announced that Atarfil will invest approximately $5 million to establish a manufacturing facility in Hampton Roads. They will create 15 full-time jobs with an average salary of over $52,000. The Commonwealth of Virginia successfully competed against the State of Maryland for this project. The Alliance, along with the City of Suffolk, Virginia Economic Development Partnership, and the Port of Virginia assisted the company during their decision-making process.
Founded in 1995, Atarfil's social aim is the development, manufacturing and marketing of thermoplastic geomembranes and other complementary products for application in works of Environmental Protection, Integrated Water Management, Public Works and Building Construction. Their current production capacity is over 65,000 tons / year, making Atarfil one of the top 5 manufacturing leaders of thermoplastic geomembranes in the world.
"It is with great pride that we welcome Atarfil to, Hampton Roads," notes Alliance chairman Mr. Jim Bourey. “We are honored they selected our region as their first U.S. location to expand their manufacturing operation. We look forward to witnessing their continued success for many more years to come."
"The arrival of Atarfil is one more example of the exceptional collaboration and service delivered by the Alliance’s investing organizations and by our region's economic development professionals," said Rick Weddle, President & CEO of the Alliance. "We all work together to promote Hampton Roads and its community of strong, unique, distinctive brands as the preferred location for companies around the world. These firms contribute significantly to the region’s economy and our strong partnership and success demonstrates the value the Alliance brings to its membership and partners."
The Alliance extends our congratulations to Suffolk Mayor, Linda T. Johnson, Economic Development Director, Kevin Hughes and the entire team at Suffolk Economic Development, as well as thanks to all of our private and public sector investors for their continued support of the Alliance and its mission.
