Meet the Team: Addie Mason
The Alliance is pleased to introduce Addie Mason, our Associate of Marketing & Communications. Addie joined the Alliance team in June of this year. Her skills in photography and videography, as well as her personal interests in design and technology make her a great addition to our Marketing & Communications department.
Addie is a native to Florida, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Photography at the University of West Florida. She moved to Norfolk in May of 2016. Prior to joining the Alliance team, she has gained marketing experience in content production and community management with multiple companies in both Virginia and Florida.
Why are you excited to be a part of the Alliance Team?
I am excited to be a part of the Alliance Team, because first and foremost, I love my job. I get to be creative every day, and there’s always something new for me to work on. With a background in fine arts, I am definitely learning something new every day about this industry and about the region. I also feel very lucky to work with a team of people who are very passionate about what they do every day.
How familiar are you with the Hampton Roads area?
Pretty familiar – especially with the Norfolk and Virginia Beach areas. I moved to Downtown Norfolk about a year and a half ago, and I am still continuing to learn new things about the region every day. I love that there is always more for me to discover here.
How has the region of Hampton Roads helped shape your career?
I’m not sure I’ve lived here long enough for Hampton Roads itself to directly shape my career in a very compelling way, but I will say that moving here challenged me to get outside of my comfort zone. I was born and raised in my little corner of Florida, and I was definitely comfortable there. Moving to a completely unfamiliar place was quite a change for me and it helped me realize that getting outside of my comfort zone is actually quite thrilling. It’s helped me both in my personal and professional life to try unfamiliar things and to challenge myself every day.
What do you envision for Hampton Roads in the coming years?
I definitely envision growth for Hampton Roads in the coming years. Even in the short time I’ve lived here, I’ve been able to see so much growth happening. Between the new Waterside and the Main opening up this year, in addition to so many other new places downtown, I can definitely see this having a ripple effect reaching out to other parts of the region. We need to be sure to take advantage of this momentum in order reach our potential as a community.
What are some of your favorite restaurants, hobbies or activities for when you’re not at work?
My favorite way to spend a Saturday is with a nice, long beach day filled with surfing, sand, and sunshine, followed by a Northender sandwich and a local craft brew from Taste on the way home. Other than that, I enjoy spending my free time outdoors, traveling, and any activity that I can include my dog, Presley. I went to school for fine arts, so of course I also spend a lot of time taking photos and painting.
What do you love about Hampton Roads?
What I love most about Hampton Roads is its accessibility to everything. Hampton Roads has everything I need. We have both the city and the beach. There’s a tremendous amount of art, culture, and history in the area, and access to any outdoor activity I might be in the mood to do. There’s also so much within a short drive – the mountains, Outer Banks, DC, the list could go on. I love waking up every day knowing that whatever adventure I might want to go on is here for me.
