The Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance is an organization whose mission is to bring economic growth to its 11 partner localities. It does this through marketing the Hampton Roads region to domestic and international firms looking to expand and/or relocate in the next 12‐24 months. The Alliance also spurs growth through supporting existing firms to expand in Hampton Roads and is funded through a 50/50 model of public and private investment.

Manager, Investor Relations & Development

ACCOUNTABILITY:  Reports to Director of Operations

BASIC FUNCTION:  Marketing, Sales & Customer Relationship Management 

PRIMARY DUTIES: Establish and implement a robust investor engagement strategy


Investor Relations Support

  • Nurture and retain current investor companies and public sector partners through frequent communication
  • Reach out to existing investors through a variety of mediums to ensure they are hearing from the Alliance and understand the value of their investment
  • Continue follow‐up and management of previous capital campaign leads to secure new investors
  • Develop and update investor communications and sales tools as applicable
  • Work directly with the Director of Operations to track and manage all investor relations activities

Event Coordination

  • Ensure all private investors receive their annual benefits through scheduling and monitoring events throughout the year
  • Conducts, organizes and implements quarterly investor update events for the Alliance’s 70+ investors
  • Organize, manage and coordinate Alliance events necessary to promote the Alliance mission for the purpose of advancing the organization’s financial success
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to the Alliance Board of Directors, Executive Committee and others as appropriate
  • Represent the Alliance at key community functions for the purpose of sharing the Alliance story and recent successes with existing and target investors


  • Develop new investor prospects, facilitate outreach, organize meetings and, when possible, close deals
  • Hit top‐line funding goals that are set each year
  • Leverage existing investors to recruit new investors


  • Assist all personnel as needed
  • Flexibility to assume additional duties as required


  • Proficient in Microsoft Professional Office Suite applications and database knowledge desired
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Team oriented with friendly and outgoing personality
  • Self‐starter, focused, goal and results oriented, attention to detail, flexible, meets clients well, good follow‐up skills and positive attitude
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and tact
  • Organized with ability to handle multiple projects and be adaptable to competing demands
  • Good time management skills and ability to work in a fast pace environment
  • A desired interest in business development, entrepreneurship, marketing and community development
